The ambitious trek to Gondogoro La is one of the most adventurous and technical treks in Pakistan. The beauty of the place has no match in the world and the view of K2 is gorgeous. Gondogoro La is a 5650 m pass that separates the Hushe Valley from the Upper Baltoro Glacier. The view from the pass is beyond description. it is simply the finest mountain panorama on earth. The four 8000 meter peaks of the Karakorum’s are easily visible, including K2 (8611m), and countless smaller peaks stretch into the distance as far as you can see.
Gondogoro La is a technical, strenuous trek and is not a good choice for a first-time trekker. The trek to the top of the Gondogoro La requires the use of an ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet, and ropes. An early morning start must be used to reach the pass and the trekker must be fit as well. At 2:00 A.M. you leave Ali Camp in darkness across the Vigne Glacier, reaching the bottom of the pass by early morning around 5:00 A.M. The morning light illuminates the immense snow walls that surround you.
After a few mesmerizing actions on the top of Gondogoro La, you make a steep descent into the glaciated valley utilizing strategically-placed fixed ropes as aids. By midday you reach Hispang, a beautiful campsite at 4833 m. you rest by a glacial stream surrounded by swaths of colorful mountain flowers and gentle green slopes. The next leg of our journey is three or four days of easy trekking down to Hushe village.
