Passu is one of the oldest settlement sites in Gojal (Upper Hunza), lies between Batura & Passu Glaciers. The people are Ismailies of Tajik origin. In the beginning they had their own Mirs/ Rajas, but later on they came under the control of the Mir of Hunza. They up rose twice against Hunza rulers but could not succeed. Around Passu, there are several short and long trekking routes.
Among the villagers and the foreigners Batura Valley is well known for its summer herds, best touristy spots, and the Panoramic views of the Batura Wall (7785 meters), Passu (7284 meters) & Shishper Peak (7611 meters) with its ice falls is superb. Also you will experience a breathtaking view one of the crystal clear water of Lupdur Lake. After halfway between Kukhil and Guchsum is the wide plateau of Shelmin where the Wrthum brook flows from the North. This is much tougher route than Kilik or Mintaka but not a technical one.

The scenery will simply sweep you off your feet. This trek is especially recommended for those who intend to do short walks for one to six days. Most parts of this trek are easy with wild mountain followers, Juniper trees, Birch trees, and great summer pastures. The only difficult part is crossing the glacier. During the trek you can observe the life style of the very friendly Wakhi people and can experience organic food especially made from milk and herbs shepherds used as vegetable. They are well known for their hospitality and will offer you yogurt, butter, and milk.
